I see the solution, but don't know it's possible to run bitcoind with -datadir [network drive] -walletfile [wallet.dat on local drive], but see no that option yet. If it does, re-download / re-install the client otherwise corupt configs. Also tried the external NetDrive tool which creates the drive using FTP - same result. Your configure log shows this configure: WARNING: Found Berkeley DB other than 4.8; wallets opened by this build will not be portable! To recover, BACKUP THAT DIRECTORY, then remove everything from it except for wallet.dat.

It doesn't happen with the same wallet in a local data directory? Making it possible to split the datadir and blocksdir is planned as well, but on the longer run (see #3214). I can not lose my wallets, so b) is out.

the only "fix" for this error i found via google is pretty much a "delete .bitcoin"...
