I see the solution, but don't know it's possible to run bitcoind with -datadir [network drive] -walletfile [wallet.dat on local drive], but see no that option yet. If it does, re-download / re-install the client otherwise corupt configs. Also tried the external NetDrive tool which creates the drive using FTP - same result. the only "fix" for this error i found via google is pretty much a "delete .bitcoin"...
